The Texas state bird is the Mockingbird. The Mockingbird was chosen to be the
Texas state bird in the year 1927. It is said that the Mockingbird has the most
beautiful bird song of all the species. Mocking the songs of various birds derives
the beautiful song of this Texas state bird. Because bird songs are particular
to species, the Mockingbird will begin a beautiful melody then begin another
one. Somehow, the Texas State bird will continue to flow through these medleys
as if performing a piano concerto.
The Texas state bird is roughly nine inches in stature. They
have slender beaks and are grayish in color with white under
parts. They also have white spots in their wings, which is
clearly visible when they are in flight. Their eyes are yellow
and their legs are black. Their tail feathers are black and
the outer tail feathers are white. Surprisingly, both male
and female Mockingbirds look alike. If you would like to attract the Texas state bird into your backyard
there are a few things that you can do, that will greater your
chances of bringing Mockingbirds well into your viewing pleasure.
They do not favor bird feeders since they prefer live insects
to eat. However, they love to eat Suet, and if you install
a Suet feeder, you will enhance your chances of bringing these
backyard beauties into your garden for a visit. You can also
offer items such as dried fruits and place them on a platform
feeder. A platform feeder is like a wooden box (without a top)
that holds bird food horizontally. Another great way to attract Mockingbirds is to set up a birdbath.
Birdbaths are a great way to offer cool and refreshing comfort
to birds that may not be attracted to a seed filled bird feeder.
Make sure that you continually change the water of your birdbath
and keep it cleaned. By following these tips, you will soon
see the Texas state bird visiting your very own backyard. |
