Florida birds are just as an important part of Florida's ecosystem
as are Florida plants. The word Florida was derived from the Spanish
word for flowers, and it is because of the abundance of plentiful
flowers that Florida is also home to a wonderful array of various
bird species.
Florida birds range from species that live in wetlands to natives
that abound in the thickly dense forests. There are over 100
species of Florida birds that are native to the state, and
for that fact alone; Florida is a bird lover's paradise.
Floridians have the luxury of planting gardens to attract various
Florida birds year round as well as viewing many species in
their natural habitat. From the ocean to the wetlands, Florida
birds are seen year round and in their full beauty and splendor.
Some of the most common Florida birds include the American
Oystercatcher, the American White Pelican, the Bald Eagle,
the Barred and Barn Owl, the Redwing Blackbird, the Burrowing
Owl (which is a fascinating owl that literally lives under
ground and burrows), Cranes such as the Sandhill, Whooping,
and Florida Sandhill, Mockingbird, the beautiful pink Flamingo
and Rosette Spoonbill, and various Parakeets.
The assortment of Florida birds is as fascinating as beautiful.
With the warm climate, many birds associated with the tropics
are native to Florida.
There are many bird sanctuaries ready for bird watchers to further
their knowledge and bird societies to join. If you are interested
in attracting some of Florida's birds to your garden, you may
want to set up a bird feeder as well as a birdbath. Bird feeders
are desirable for birds that eat seeds, and you can purchase
birdseed for specific bird breeds. For other birds that prefer
worms and insects, a birdbath can be a magnificent way to attract
those birds for your viewing pleasure. Not only can you set
up your birdbath beneath a window or where you will have the
best vocal point, but you will also have the satisfaction of
knowing that you are providing Florida birds with a cool break
