When bird hunting in America it
is vitally important to know and adhere to Federal Laws and Regulations
regarding hunting waterfowl and other birds. To find out your state's
specific laws you need to contact your local Fish and Wildlife
department. To many bird hunting is more than sport, it is a way
of life, yet the Federal Government regulates bird hunting and
there are penalties for those who hunt against their regulations.
There are also bird hunting societies that you may join within
your state. These societies will inform you of laws that are
applicable for your state, and are also a great way to meet
fellow hunters.
You may also only go bird hunting in designated areas; the Federal
government regulates these areas as well. A hunting license
will be required before you are allowed to participate in any
bird hunting activities. These licenses vary from state to
state and are regulated by each state. You may contact your
local Fish and Wildlife service for information on obtaining
a hunting license in your particular state. You will also need
to purchase a Duck Stamp and you may be required to purchase
a state waterfowl stamp as well.
The Duck Stamp program is
a federal program that was started in 1934. With the money
that The Duck Stamp program raises, they purchase land for
the National Wildlife Refuge System. You will also be required
to join the Hip program. It is a free program and HIP stands
for Migratory Bird Harvest Information Program. This program
is used for survey purposes only. After you join the Hip program
you will then be contacted and asked various questions relating
to the types of birds that you hunt during season. They then
use the information gathered to determine hunting season lengths
and to determine harvesting estimates. |
